April Blue Fern Studios Projects

Happy Sunday! Today I'd like to share some projects I've made this month for Blue Fern Studios.

Dream Layout

First up, I have my sketch layout. You may have seen it if you have checked out our April sketch challenge. Here is the lovely sketch:

And, here is my take on it using the Blue Fern Garden paper collection:

Here's a closeup of the "Beaded Strings" circle piece. I primed it with gesso, then used a blending tool with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink by Ranger. I finished the treatment by adding some random stamping with a text stamp in archival ink, and placed some bling on each of the "beads."

This piece from the "Ironworks Accents" set fit perfectly at the top of the layout. I primed it with gesso, then added some Ranger "cement" embossing powder, then lightly added some grey chalk ink for added distressing.

The "Blue Fern Flourish" is tucked under the flowers. I used gesso to prime (of course!), then added some green Distress Stain and some olive chalk ink after the stain was dry.

If you haven't already, play along with us this month with the April sketch: April Sketch Challenge!

Butterfly Tag

For this tag I used three keys from the "Vintage Keys" set. I colored them with silver Izink without priming them first to create a "dull" look to the keys.

I painted this "Bohemian Butterfly" with glossy black paint with a sponge. When it was dry, I glued it to some pink paper, then cut around it. I topped it off with some crystals to accent the body.

Dream Big Layout

And, the last project I am sharing today is this layout:

I tucked the "Seasonal Wildflowers" under the picture after coloring it with blue chalk ink and sponging on some walnut stain Distress Ink. I layered the different inks several times in random spots, and added some small blooms.

This title is from "The Optimist Word Set." I primed it with gesso, then added some Ranger embossing ink in turquoise. It was a little brighter than I wanted it to be, so I used some brown chalk ink to randomly tone down that blue.

For the "Doily Bunting" I grazed it with black archival ink, then added some wired raffia along the "string," and then placed tiny blooms on each doily.

Thank you for letting me share my projects with you today! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Never miss one of our kits again!

We have some absolutely beautiful scrapbook projects for you to see today !!

Seriously, my heart just stopped when I first saw this paper collection from Authentique at the Winter CHA show. The colors speak to me. The designs on the papers are so classically gorgeous, and perfect in every way. Tiffany blue is my favorite color! Breakfast at Tiffany's is my FAVORITE classic movie EVER! So, I was thrilled that we were able to get this collection in a kit, not to mention the perfect timing of this paper release- it's amazing how many embellishments coordinate with this paper and theme!

"I Hope You Feel Beautiful Today" Altered Shadowbox

I had a blast making this shadowbox tray! I think it's going to look quite fabulous in my bathroom. For this tray, I used items from the main and add on kits, including flowers that I made with the project add on this month that features the new Marion Smith Bloom Impressions tool. I am so impressed with myself because I NEVER make my own flowers, and I made both of these:

And, I have a video tutorial on how to EASILY make both of these flowers with some tips and tricks:

"Oh What a Darling" Layout

This is my take on the sketch this month. Admittedly, my design took on a life of it's own! To me, this kit is perfect for "classic" looking designs, so this is the result. These pictures are of my daughter, Audra, who is actually named after Audrey Hepburn. I wanted something a little different and not as common as Audrey. :)

Everything on this page is from the Tiffany's collection with the exception of the title, which are Authentique diction, and some Thickers.

"Hello" Card

So, this is my card I am submitting for the Swirlydoos Round Robin card challenge this month for week one. I was going for a heavily layered, shabby chic card. I used a Die~Namites die (Butterfly Frame) for the oval. It is one of my favorites!

"Supreme" Layout

Oh, how I love Audrey Hepburn! I've seen most, if not all of her movies. I came across this photo by Angus McBean while trying to find a good photo of this icon, and I found this, and KNEW this would be the perfect photo to pay tribute to my favorite actress!

I used the embossing powder and metallic paint to create that finish on the frame. I used a metal corner, butterfly, and pocket watch from my stash to complete the layout.

Thanks for joining us for our blog hop today. I hope you found some inspiration!

You have until midnight, eastern time, on Sunday 4/13 to complete the hop. Winners will be announced on the Swirlydoos Blog on Monday 4/14. In order to qualify to win here is what you need to do:

More Blue Fern Garden Projects

Hello! Today I want to with you to share some more projects I have made using more of the Blue Fern Garden papers. They are so beautiful and I am down to scraps now, but I have had such a fun time working with this beyond gorgeous collection!

"Perfect" Layout

I'm trying to use up every part of each piece of paper, so I used this "Boudoir" piece that I cut an oval out of already for another layout, and went from there for this layout. The back has some green cardstock and the "Love Letters" paper that I fussy cut the lattice out of.

Here's a closeup of the berry stems that I used as part of my floral cluster:

Primed with gesso, and then sprayed with some green gold mist, I then added some archival ink in black to these "berry stems", then added some Liquid Pearls in black for accents.

This is a close up of the "sweetheart dressform" that I treated with gold Ferro, then sprinkled black embossing powder over while still wet, and dried with a heat gun to get this distressed effect.

"Follow Your Heart" Card

Another project I made using the Blue Fern Garden scraps.

The bird is from the "little birds set." I just used black chalk ink on him. :)

The frame is from the "petite boutique frames set" that I primed with gesso, sprayed with patina mist in random spots, then used some gold embossing powder.

The scrolls under the flower are pieces I cut from the "large royal border." I painted it with dark olive paint, then added some bright green microbeads.

"Good Things Jar" Altered Project

And, lastly, here is an altered project I made using a mason jar. I've made a few of these, and I give them to friends as gifts. I saw this idea on Pinterest: keep a mason jar handy and when something good happens, write it down on a piece of paper, fold it up, and throw it in the jar. At the end of the year, take all of the pieces out and read all of the good things that have happened for that year. In the pin, the mason jar is plain, but it's much better to have an altered jar on the counter!

The jar is covered with a piece of "In Bloom" paper that I stamped and distressed. The little flag is from the bottom strip of one of the papers.

The bird cage is from the "grande cages set." I covered it with Perfect Pearls in heirloom gold, which gives it a perfect finish- not to shiny! I added pearl strips and accented the butterfly with Smooch inks.

Here's the back:

Thanks for taking the time to look at my projects today!

Never miss one of our kits again!

We have some absolutely beautiful scrapbook projects for you to see today !!

Oh my word, this kit is amazing! The rich colors are so beautiful and elegant! I'm having so much fun making things with the Salutations kit. Here's what I've made so far:

Imagine Layout

This is my take on the March sketch. The stenciling is done with the contents from the "mediums add on." I used part of the stencil and the new stone effects from Art Anthology. It was a little too light for this design, so I touched it up with some black chalk ink, and I love the variation it gave.

The rings behind the picture are cut from a Memory Box die, available in the Swirlydoos Boutique HERE.

This picture is so funny to me! This is my youngest, and he is VERY imaginative. He keeps me laughing all day long with his observations, inferences, and imagination. Here, he is in his apple rocketship. It was JUST "MY rocketship," but when he swiped an apple from the counter and climbed back in, it became "MY apple rocketship!"

Don't forget, anyone can enter our sketch challenge. All of the details are on the Swirlydoos blog.

Memory Lane Photo Carousel

The project add on this month is MIND BLOWING! It features an off the page project that you will definitely love. It was perfect to pair with the Prima Stationer's Desk papers from the main kit. I had a blast making this, and plan to give it to a friend as a wedding gift.

I have a video tutorial for this project that has two parts: assembling and a description of how I decorated this project:

I hope you liked my projects, and I really hope you are getting the March kit collection!
