Blue Fern Studios: October Projects

Hello everyone! Today I'm sharing three layouts I have made with the Montage paper collection from Blue Fern Studios.

"Sweet as Honey" Layout

I used a handful of papers from the Montage paper collection to create this layout, and ripped the papers to create dimension. I had fun playing with these light colors, adding a lot of white with the ripped edges, doily, frame, and bunting!

Here is a close up of the Twilight Garden Frame. I primed it with a heavy layer of gesso, then sprinkled glass filler over it to give it a sugared look. I use the same technique on pieces of the Organic Vine that I cut up and tucked under the flower cluster.

The title is from The Latest Buzz set. I treated it with multiple colors of embossing powder to get this look.

I used the same technique on this small piece of doily bunting.

"Happy Memories" Layout

I just adore this piece of Montage paper, Mercantile. It's a very busy pattern, so I tried to keep my design simple by adding black accents and also choosing a black and white picture that wasn't too busy.

Here is a closeup that captures both pieces of chipboard I used.

For the Large Circle Frame, I simply painted it with one coat of black chalkboard paint, allowing hints of the natural color of the chipboard show through the paint. I added some pearls to the circles in the design, and some flowers over the flower silhouettes on the frame.

The title is two pieces from the Chunky Word Set that I treated using some multicolored embossing powder.

Untitled Fall Layout

Again, I used Montage paper, but added a piece from the Ombre Dreams collection for the layers under the picture. I found this picture on Pinterest.

Here are two closeups of the Floral Wreath that show the distressing of the piece. I sprayed the chipboard with water, and separated the edges to create a level of dimension and "realness" of the leaves and flowers. Once it was curly, I dried it with a heat gun, then added some green and brown mists.

I cut a piece of the Country Picket Fence to add to the bottom corner, and scraped it with a distress ink pad to get that finish.

Lastly, I added a bird from the Little Birds Set. I used brown and gold embossing powders.

Thanks for checking out my projects! Have a great day!

Swirlydoos Kit Club Project: Altered Mason Jar

Happy Saturday!

The October kit is simply fabulous, and I have so many plans to use it all up! Here's an altered mason jar I made last night.

I am using this as a "good things" jar. I got the idea off of Pinterest to keep a jar on the counter and every time something "good" happens, write it down on a piece of paper and throw it in the jar. You can read them once a month or once a year. It's pretty fun and helps remind you of all the good things in your life. I recently moved, and my good things jar BROKE. So, it was time to make a new one.

Here's the video tutorial:

And, now I'm sharing part two- how I achieved the distressed finish and embellishing the box.

Blue Fern Studios: Montage Layouts

Hello everyone! I'm sharing some new projects I've made using the fabulous new Montage paper collection by Blue Fern Studios! This collection is PURE JOY to work with, and I'm excited to use it to create many more projects. Here are my first three that I've made to show you this month:

"Happiness is the Sunshine of the Soul" Layout

For this layout I used the "Invitation" and "Bouquet" papers from the Montage collection.

In this closeup, you can see part of the JEWELED FRAME chipboard. I treated this by using several embossing powders, and randomly touching it with an archival ink pad.

Here's another one:

On the edges of the layout,  I placed some TURKISH BITS that I embossed. I also used more embossing powder to treat the MINI FLOURISHES.

"Take Time..." Layout

For this layout I used "Bouquet," "Calling Cards," and "Now and Then" from the Montage paper collection.

I covered three PARTY FLAGS with various Montage papers, then threaded the holes with jute twine.

For this LEAFY BOUGH, I cut it in two to wrok better with my design. I left it "naked" then used glitter glue and loose glitter on top of it and used a heat gun until it bubbled.

"Sitting Pretty" Layout

From the Montage collection, I used "Calling Cards," "Wisdom," "Invitation," and "Bouquet" papers.

I cut a piece from GINGER'S POPPIES, and embossed it with a vintage pink embossing powder.

I painted the ORNATE SHELF with black milk paint which gave it a matte finish.

I took the inserts of the ORNATE SHELF out of the main piece, and used one of them for an accent piece on the side of the photo.

And, I used the MINI FLOURISHES again, this time using gesso, embossing powders, and a green mist for this shabby chic finish.

Thanks for checking out my projects today!

We have some absolutely beautiful scrapbook projects for you to see today !!

Oh my, this collection is TO DIE FOR! I am so in love with Prima's Time Traveller collection! Here's what I've made SO FAR with this amazing September kit.

"Timeless Memories" Shadowbox

This month, the the project/technique kit has an ADORABLE little box, and I knew right away that I would make it into a tiny shadowbox.

The main focus of the tech kit is the metallic Mod Melts with a great mold with keys, keyholes, and GEARS! I love the gears so much. I love to buy the Tim Holtz gears, but this is really nice for making your own- you'll never run out again! I made the gears and clock out of the Mod Melts for my design at the bottom of the box- great accents.

This month, I have broken up my project kit video tutorial into TWO parts. Today, I'm sharing how to get the PERFECT impressions with these molds because they can be kind of tricky, but completely worth making. My tutorial for making these embellishments can be seen here:

And, be sure to check back on the Swirlydoos blog on Saturday, September 20th, to see how I finished up the shadowbox, how I created this distressed finish, and the embellishing!

"Memories" Layout

Based on the Sketch

Did you see the sketch on the Swirlydoos blog for September? Oh my- it is my favorite!
This is my take on it.

Look, it's the Swirlydoos chandelier! This piece came in the embellishment add on. I added this to the corner to balance the design. And, I can enter it into the Swirly Girls Challenge that Barbara is hosting on the forums!

I did a basic treatment- lightly rubbing my archival ink on the chipboard, leaving some of it raw. Then I added some bling from my stash.

Here's a closeup that shows the flowers and tucking of papers and embellies under the photo.

I used my nesting circle dies to create the circle and then used the black pearl strands from the embellishment add on on it to create a perfect bling circle.

I layered the lace and crocheted trims for added interest. The green paper is a doily from my stash.

"My Guys" Layout

I have been waiting for the perfect kit to scrap this pic! I took this on Owen's birthday this year. It was a sweet moment, and it's one of my all-time faves of my guys!

I used a notebook punch to get this edging.

I cut up the Blue Fern Chipboard to make it work with my design. I used some Stampendous embossing powder to get this look.

And, here's a closeup that shows how I framed the picture with Kasiercraft string from the embellishment kit. And, I added the cork hearts from the main kit. I have to say that I would have never bought these little cork hearts, but that is the joy of getting Swirlydoos kits- Krissy puts stuff in the kits that I didn't even know I wanted! I love them!

Thanks for letting me share my projects with you.
